The CORTE meeting in March in Brussels with the participation of Inelo representatives is already over. As always, important issues in the TSL industry were addressed, in particular regarding the driver’s working time and how to control it, as well as the changes awaiting us faster than we expect, namely the electrical revolution.

Even though electric cars have been with us for a long time, they still evoke many emotions, especially in the heavy transport, which is subject to many restrictive regulations. At the meeting, the participants had a chance to learn about the changes introduced by the electric revolution and consider important issues, i.e. how can the process of loading a vehicle be treated in the context of the driver’s breaks and rest time. One thing is for sure, new stations with fast and safe loading are much needed to carry out the entire process with the driver in the cabin.

Another topic under discussion was the suggestion to interrupt one week rest on the same rules as ferry transfers so that a truck with charged accumulators can be moved from the charging station to a parking lot and free the spot for another one, even if the driver of the first truck is resting. Currently, the stations are not technically prepared for charging two cars at the same time because it causes a drop of accumulator charging speed.

Important news for the inspection is that there are works carried out on the new version of the Polish Registry of Road Transport Undertakings (ERRU3), which will probably be available in October this year.

Manual tachograph entries are subject to changes

There will also be changes to manual tachograph entries – the current suggestion submitted for consultation assumes that manual tachograph entries will be mandatory only since the last one week rest if the driver has no access to the tachograph for more than a week.

DSRC – a technology that helps detect manipulation

The Dutch transport control department ILT shared its experience in daily use of the DSRC technology, including the tested DSRC solution with the TachoScan Control module by Inelo. The ILT inspector present at the meeting pointed out that thanks to the RTM information, i.e. the most important parameters from smart tachographs in heavy vehicles, they were able to stop a truck that they would not be able to control otherwise and where a tachograph manipulation had been spotted. In their opinion, RTM parameters should be extended in the future with such information as e.g.: rest alerts, driver license category and more events and failures.

The next meeting of the CORTE members will be held in June. We will inform you about the results on an ongoing basis. Follow our social media and subscribe to the newsletter so that you can catch up on the news important for your company.
